We are big fans of the Doctor Who series around here, especially our youngest. When I saw this afghan idea, I immediately thought of him.
Alex from Two Hearts Crochet has several of these C2C patterns that she has created, as well as lots of amigurumi, and other patterns.
I’m looking forward to trying this, but I’ve never done C2C, so it will be a learning experience. I’m sure I can figure it out, I just don’t know what I’ll think of this style of crochet.
Square #1 is in the middle and seemed like a great place to begin because it only uses two colors.
The pattern for this square calls for Vanna’s Choice in white and sapphire. I wasn’t able to find any place locally that carried the sapphire, so I substituted Deborah Norville Everyday in royal blue.
The blanket, as designed, is large enough to cover a queen size bed, which is a bit bigger than I need. To make it a better fit for my purposes, I am going to do the C2C stitch in hdc instead of dc, which is apparently called mini C2C. So far, I’ve gotten six rows in.
The other change I’m planning to make, is to replace the top left square with one of her alternates: “Don’t Blink”. This will suit my son better than the other.
With nine squares and the possibility of top and bottom panels, to make the whole thing a rectangular piece, I know it will take quite some time to finish. If it goes well, and doesn’t take too long, I might do another of her projects for my daughter.
